We will depart from Zagreb in the late morning hours and drive towards the north-western part of Croatia. In less than 2 hours we will reach the idyllic rural setting of the St. Urban hills, scattered with farm houses, barns and neat vineyards. Our first wine tour will take place at the top of the St. Urban hill, in the Lovrec Winery. Through an educational tour of their ancient wine cellar, ethnographic collection and tasting facilities, Krešimir’s sister Jasna, an experienced guide, will introduce you to the ‘physical and the cultural’ terroir of their estate’s micro location. In an authentic wooden cottage, decorated with rustic furniture, you can take part in an amusing and informative wine tasting session (available in 4 languages – Croatian, Slovenian, English and German). Expect to sample eight different wines, ranging from dry to sweet, accompanied by a homemade snack.
We will contine our tour towards the picturesque hill of Železna gora and the Terbotz palace, which has been converted in a lovely traditional restaurant by the Jakopić family. The restaurant boasts beautiful views of the neighbouring hills and valleys and an impressive wine cellar. Here you will taste some typical Međimurje delicacies, such as Pretepena juha, Meso ‘z tiblice, Turoš and Međimurska gibanica, served as a 3-course meal and paired with the best wines from the Jakopić Winery. After this delicious lunch you will be ready to explore authentic architectural details of the wine cellar and taste the best vintages made by this exceptional wine maker. At the conclusion of your tour we shall return you back to your hotel/private accommodation.
